Welcome to Greenbar Support
Welcome. This page provides concise, privacy-first guidance for using Greenbar, troubleshooting common issues, and contacting our support team. If you need direct help, use the Contact Support section below.
Getting Started
Importing CSV files
- Supported CSV format: comma-separated values with a header row. Required columns: date description amount currency (optional).
- Steps: In-app → Settings → Import → Choose CSV → Map columns → Confirm.
- Tips: Use ISO date formats (YYYY-MM-DD). Remove extra summary rows and ensure amounts use a dot for decimals.
Importing PDF statements
- Supported PDFs: bank or card statements with selectable text (not scanned images). If your PDF is a scan, convert to searchable PDF or export CSV from your bank.
- Steps: In-app → Settings → Import → Choose PDF → Review parsed transactions → Confirm import.
- Troubleshooting: If parsing fails, see Troubleshooting below.
Creating budgets
- Create a budget: Tap Budgets → New Budget → Select category, amount, period → Save.
- Adjustments: Edit or pause budgets anytime. Budgets are local to your device.
Setting financial goals
- Set a goal: Goals → New Goal → Target amount, target date, funding source → Save.
- Progress: Greenbar shows progress based on imported transactions and manual entries.
Using the Health Score
- What it is: A privacy-first, on-device summary metric that reflects cash flow, savings rate, and budget adherence.
- How to use: Open Health Score from the dashboard to view drivers and suggested actions.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is my financial data uploaded?
No. Greenbar stores data locally on your device by default. See Privacy & Security for full details.
Does Greenbar require an account?
No account is required for core features. Creating an account is optional and only used if you enable cloud features (if offered). By default Greenbar operates locally.
How do I backup my data?
Use the in-app Export feature to create an encrypted backup file. Save the file to your preferred secure location (local drive, encrypted cloud storage you control). Keep your backup passphrase safe.
How do I restore data?
Use the in-app Restore feature and select your encrypted backup file. You will be prompted for the backup passphrase.
How does biometric security work?
Greenbar uses the device's biometric APIs (Face ID, Touch ID, Android Biometric) to unlock the app locally. Biometric data never leaves your device and is handled by the OS.
What file formats are supported?
CSV and searchable PDF statements are supported. We also accept common bank export formats; check the Import screen for a full list.
Why is my PDF import failing?
Common causes: scanned (image-only) PDFs, unusual statement layouts, or password-protected files. Convert scans to searchable PDFs or export CSV from your bank. If problems persist, submit a bug report with the PDF sample (redact sensitive details).
How do recurring subscriptions work?
Mark a transaction as recurring to have Greenbar project future charges and include them in budgets and Health Score calculations. Recurring rules are stored locally and editable at any time.
Troubleshooting
Import issues
- Confirm file format and encoding (UTF-8 recommended).
- Open the CSV in a text editor to verify headers and delimiters.
- For PDFs, ensure text is selectable; OCR the file if necessary.
Corrupt files
- If an import file is corrupt, restore from a known-good backup.
- Try exporting a small sample of transactions and re-importing to isolate the problem.
Missing transactions
- Check import mapping and date ranges.
- Verify filters and category rules that may hide transactions.
Slow performance
- Large datasets can slow older devices. Try importing in smaller batches.
- Clear app cache or restart the device if performance degrades.
Forgotten PIN
- If you forget your app PIN, use the in-app recovery flow. Recovery requires your backup passphrase or biometric unlock if previously enabled.
- If you cannot recover, contact Support with proof of purchase and device details. We cannot access your local data without your backup passphrase.
Privacy & Security
Local-only storage
By default Greenbar stores your financial data locally on your device. Data is processed and analyzed on-device to preserve privacy.
No cloud synchronization
Greenbar does not automatically sync your data to our servers. Any cloud backup or sync feature is explicitly opt-in and clearly described in-app.
No sale of user data
We do not sell user data. We do not share identifiable financial information with third parties for advertising or resale.
User ownership of financial information
You own your financial data. Export and deletion tools are available in-app so you can move, back up, or remove your data at any time.
Security practices
- Encryption at rest for backups using a passphrase you control.
- Biometric unlock uses OS-level secure storage.
- Minimal permissions requested; each permission includes an in-app explanation.
